Vascular Dementia is a degenerative cerebrovascular disease that leads to a progressive decline in memory and cognitive functioning. It occurs when the blood supply carry oxygen and nutrients to the brain is interrupted by a blocked or disease vascular system. Vascular dementia generally affects people between the ages of 60 and 75, and effects more men than women. The most common type of vascular dementia is multi-infarct dementia ( MID ), which is caused by a series of small strokes, or mini-strokes, that often go unnoticed and cause damage to the cortex of the brain - the area associated with learning, memory, and language.

I read your blog and I have been researching topics related to death or sickness. For some reason I have become a little obsess over the dying process. It stemmed from my children asking me the other day about death and when would I die? Death has always been a taboo topic that I have been always hesitant to think about. Sometimes I just get overly emotional thinking about it. I have thoughts of what will happen, how will it be, will I be breathing or other crazy notions. I have to thank the Lord that I have never been sick. I have experience other people dying and falling ill and it has been hard to imagine being diagnosis with a progressive or a fatal illness. When my sister died from sickle cell disease about three years ago, it was life changing and I carry her face in my memory. I hope that my death is quick, painless and I do not have to suffer.
